The Winnipeg mayoral race on October 28 features incumbent Scott Gillingham seeking a second term against a field that includes former councillor and MLA Kevin Klein, who registered in early September and immediately drew pointed criticism from Gillingham. Gillingham has emphasized recent gains in housing starts, transit changes, and downtown safety initiatives while proposing faster permitting and zoning adjustments to spur development. Klein’s entry revives a prior contest dynamic and highlights voter concerns over homelessness, addictions, property taxes, and public safety that surfaced in mid-2026 polling. With registration closing September 22 and a large but mostly low-profile field of other candidates, the contest remains competitive as traders weigh name recognition, incumbency advantages, and the potential for late shifts in turnout or issue salience.
