President Donald Trump directed federal agencies in February 2026 to identify and declassify records on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), UFOs, and extraterrestrial-related matters, launching the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE) program. Multiple tranches of documents, videos, and imagery from agencies including the Department of War, FBI, NASA, and others have been released on a rolling basis since the first batch on May 8, 2026, with additional drops in May, June, July, and August. The process includes reviews of historical and recent sightings, some previously partially public with reduced redactions. In July, the administration waived nondisclosure agreements for cooperating former officials and contractors to facilitate further input. Congressional figures have pressed for continued releases, while the Pentagon has described the effort as ongoing with materials posted as they are reviewed.

The primary resolution source for declassification will be official information from the government of the United States; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
