Chou Chun-mi, the Democratic Progressive Party incumbent, maintains a dominant position in the November 28, 2026, Pingtung County magistrate race, reflected in trader pricing that assigns her the clear lead over Kuomintang challenger Su Ching-chuan. Her standing draws from strong recent satisfaction survey results, including a national fourth-place ranking, success in attracting technology investments such as TSMC supply chain facilities, and expansions in social welfare programs. Pingtung’s longstanding DPP-leaning voter base further supports her re-election bid in this rematch of the 2022 contest. Su’s campaign has faced headwinds from a June 2026 indictment tied to building violations at a hospital he founded, linked to a 2024 fire that killed nine people, though he continues to emphasize local infrastructure and healthcare issues. The absence of significant third-party candidates has narrowed the field to these two main contenders.
