Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of Taoyuan as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).Chang San-cheng maintains a dominant position as the Kuomintang incumbent seeking re-election in the November 28 contest, supported by approval ratings near 62 percent and consistent polling leads of around 40 points over the Democratic Progressive Party nominee. Candidate registration concluded in early September with only two mayoral contenders confirmed, solidifying a direct KMT-DPP matchup. Huang Shih-chieh, the DPP candidate nominated in April after prior legislative and justice ministry roles in Taoyuan, faces structural challenges from the party's local brand issues and limited recent momentum. These factors underpin trader consensus around Chang's high implied probability, while Huang's lower odds reflect the competitive headwinds in this special municipality. The election timeline leaves limited room for major shifts absent unexpected developments.
