Incumbent Democrat Josh Kaul holds a clear edge in the 2026 Wisconsin attorney general race, with traders assigning him roughly 80 percent implied probability against Republican challenger Eric Toney. Kaul’s narrow 2022 victory by 1.3 percentage points and uncontested August primary set a baseline, while Toney’s rematch campaign emphasizes prosecutorial experience and critiques of state crime lab backlogs and narcotics enforcement. Recent Republican Attorneys General Association ad reservations targeting Kaul’s record and a July Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling affirming the attorney general’s authority over certain settlement funds have shaped positioning. The contest occurs in a state Donald Trump carried in 2024, heightening attention to law enforcement and public safety themes that could influence turnout among key voting blocs ahead of the November 3 general election.
