Incumbent Republican Dan Patrick holds a strong position in the 2026 Texas lieutenant governor race due to his primary victory with over 84 percent of the vote and long tenure presiding over the state Senate, where he sets the legislative agenda. Democratic nominee Vikki Goodwin, a state representative who prevailed in her May runoff, faces structural challenges in a state where Republicans have dominated statewide offices for decades. A late August poll showed Patrick leading 47 percent to 41 percent, underscoring the gap. Minor-party candidates including Libertarian Anthony Cristo and Green Party's Kevin McCormick appear on the ballot but draw limited support. Traders appear to weigh Patrick's incumbency and Texas's partisan voting patterns heavily ahead of the November 3 election.
