The fragmented field in West Vancouver's October 17, 2026, mayoral contest keeps implied probabilities closely matched, with incumbent Mark Sager and challenger Kirk LaPointe trading narrow leads amid multiple declared candidates. Sager highlights completed waterfront acquisitions, parkland protections, and housing plans while seeking to finish regional infrastructure work. LaPointe, a former journalist, campaigns on tighter financial oversight, greater resident consultation, and stronger accountability for Metro Vancouver spending overruns. Councillor Sharon Thompson's late-August entry as an alternative further splits support among voters seeking change from the current council dynamic. The September 11 nomination deadline and scheduled all-candidates forums in September and October could consolidate or further divide backing before advance voting begins.
