Three experienced candidates are contesting the open Saanich mayoral seat on October 17 after incumbent Dean Murdock declined to run again. Two-term councillor Zac de Vries, who chairs the Capital Region Housing Corporation, has highlighted his record on housing supply, transportation, and fiscal management since his June campaign launch. Three-term councillor Karen Harper released a platform in early September emphasizing diversified housing, infrastructure renewal, and environmental stewardship. Rishi Sharma, backed by the Save Our Saanich organization, stresses controlled growth and spending restraint. A concurrent non-binding amalgamation question with Victoria adds an extra variable for voters. With nominations closing September 11 and no public polls available, trader prices remain tightly bunched around the three frontrunners.
