The next Hannover mayoral election is scheduled to be held on September 13, 2026, to elect the mayor of Hannover, Germany (Oberbürgermeister der Landeshauptstadt Hannover). A runoff election is scheduled for September 27, 2026, if no candidate receives more than half of the valid votes in the first round. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next mayor of Hannover as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by April 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to “Other.” The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting; however, if there is any ambiguity in the results, this market will resolve according to official information from the Landeshauptstadt Hannover, including its election office and municipal election committee.Belit Onay’s dominant position in the Hannover mayoral race reflects his 45.6 percent share in the September 13 first round, well ahead of SPD challenger Axel von der Ohe at 21.5 percent, which triggered the September 27 runoff between the two. As the incumbent Green mayor since 2019, Onay benefits from a track record on climate-neutral heating plans, inner-city redevelopment, mobility upgrades, and public services that consolidated broad support across left-leaning and centrist voters. Other candidates, including the CDU’s Peter Karst and AfD’s Jessica Schülke, trailed far behind and will not appear on the runoff ballot. While voter consolidation behind von der Ohe or an unusually low turnout could narrow the gap, the first-round margin and Onay’s established base have produced strong trader consensus ahead of the final vote.
