The open race for Göttingen's Oberbürgermeister, with no incumbent seeking re-election, has produced a tight contest between Onyeka Oshionwu of the Greens and Florian Dinger of the SPD. Recent candidate forums have highlighted differences on housing costs, city finances, security, and climate measures ahead of the September 13 first-round vote, which could trigger a September 27 runoff if no candidate secures a majority. Oshionwu draws visibility from prior service as an honorary mayor and cross-support from Volt, while Dinger benefits from SPD organizational strength in the university city. Lower probabilities for Ehsan Kangarani of the CDU and Thomas Goes of Die Linke reflect vote fragmentation among the four confirmed contenders, keeping implied probabilities sensitive to turnout and late shifts in a closely balanced field.
