The fragmented candidate field in the closed Socialist primary, scheduled for October 9-10, underpins trader expectations that no contender will secure an outright majority. Raphaël Glucksmann leads in broader polling and among some regional socialist networks, yet Olivier Faure, Jérôme Guedj, Ségolène Royal, and Emmanuel Maurel draw support from distinct party factions and allied groups, dispersing votes among members. Recent confirmation of five candidates after Philippe Brun’s exclusion over allegations, combined with scheduled televised debates, has highlighted these divisions without producing consolidation. Historical patterns in French party primaries and the absence of a dominant frontrunner with unified backing further support the view that a runoff on October 16-17 remains the probable outcome.
