**Official observations from the National Weather Service at Chicago O'Hare recorded a daily maximum of 80°F on September 9, 2026, aligning closely with the market's near-certain 78-79°F bin (99.7% implied probability).** This outcome reflected seasonal conditions moderated by cloud cover, morning showers, and a passing cold front that limited afternoon heating. The high occurred around 2:27 PM local time under mostly cloudy skies with light rain, keeping values just 2°F above the 1991-2020 normal of 78°F. Trader consensus draws from real-time NWS climatological reports and preliminary local climatological data (CF6), which provide authoritative, station-specific measurements used for market resolution. Broader context includes the month's early heat wave (multiple 90s+ days in early September), but a shift to cooler, moister air masses on the 9th prevented further warming. Historical analogs for mid-September show typical highs in the upper 70s, supporting the observed range. Realistic challenges to this positioning remain limited given the final observational data, though minor revisions could arise from quality-controlled adjustments at the primary station or if resolution relies on a secondary site (e.g., Midway) with slightly different readings. No major model discrepancies or data gaps appear in post-event summaries.
