The contest is a rematch of the 2022 race, which Horwath won by just 1,663 votes after Loomis’s prior role leading the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. Loomis, now president and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, has emphasized housing supply, infrastructure, economic growth, and restoring confidence in city hall. Horwath, who registered her re-election bid in mid-August, highlights progress on waterfront, airport, and housing investments during her term. Recent unofficial polling shows Loomis ahead, while a crowded field of lower-polling challengers including Rob Cooper and Scarlett Gillespie fragments opposition support. Trader positioning reflects Loomis’s consistent polling edge and the historical difficulty incumbents face in Hamilton mayoral races beyond one term.
