Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate majority heading into the November 3 midterms and must defend 23 seats, many in states carried by President Trump in 2024. Democrats need a net gain of four seats for control. Nate Silver’s FLIPR model incorporates polling averages showing a roughly 6-point Democratic generic ballot edge, recent surveys tightening races in North Carolina, Maine, Ohio, Texas, Alaska, and Iowa, and fundamentals tied to midterm backlash against the president’s party. Multiple forecasters rate the chamber as highly competitive or a toss-up, with Silver’s polling averages placing Democrats ahead in several Republican-held battlegrounds. Key catalysts ahead include final polling shifts, candidate consolidation after primaries, and any late national developments that could alter the model’s probability assessment for Republican control.

The resolution source will be Silver Bulletin's 2026 Flipr Forecast of Senate control, using the "Deluxe" version of the forecast, that can be found at https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2026-midterm-election-polls-model.
Changes in the methodology by which Silver Bulletin calculates the forecast will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. If either Silver Bulletin or Flipr rebrand or otherwise change names or urls, this market will resolve based on the clearly-identified successor, should one exist. If Silver Bulletin's "Deluxe" Flipr model becomes permanently unavailable, the "Classic" model will be used.
