**August 2026 U.S. CPI data, scheduled for release on September 11, positions 3.4% as the leading market-implied outcome at 47.5% probability, followed by 3.3% at 31.5%.** July’s 3.4% year-over-year reading, down from 3.5% in June, established a base for modest further cooling amid easing prior energy spikes, though forecasts point to a 0.4% month-over-month increase driven by gasoline price rebounds and firmer food components. Persistent shelter costs, services inflation, and tariff/AI-related pressures on core goods continue to support readings near 3.3–3.4%, consistent with analyst consensus and recent consumer inflation expectations holding steady around 3.6% at the one-year horizon. These factors, combined with the labor market’s mixed signals, anchor trader sentiment around this narrow range ahead of the report.
