Recent polling for Maranhão’s two Senate seats shows Roseana Sarney (MDB) holding a clear lead for one position, while Weverton Rocha (PDT, incumbent), André Fufuca (PP), Lahesio Bonfim (Novo), and Eliziane Gama (PT, incumbent) remain tightly grouped in the contest for second. Multiple surveys from August and early September indicate these four candidates within a few points of each other for the remaining seat, with large shares of undecided voters and blank/null responses. Regional strongholds, alliances tied to the gubernatorial race, and the start of free electoral advertising have kept the second-place order fluid. Late-campaign events, turnout differentials in São Luís and interior municipalities, or shifts in voter consolidation among the leading contenders could still reorder the finish for the second vacancy before the October 4 vote.
