With nominations closing in late August, the contenders include local figures such as councillor Keith Riel, community and business leaders Neil Morton and Michael Eamon, and others with varying municipal or nonprofit experience. Trader consensus remains closely divided because no candidate has established a dominant polling or fundraising edge, and first-past-the-post voting in a crowded race raises the prospect of vote splitting. Limited public surveys and the absence of major late-breaking endorsements or scandals have kept implied probabilities compressed, while upcoming debates or candidate forums before election day could shift momentum if one contender consolidates support among key local voting blocs.
