Goldman Sachs holds the dominant position as lead underwriter for OpenAI’s eventual IPO, reflecting its selection alongside Morgan Stanley as top bookrunner on the company’s June 2026 confidential S-1 filing and its recent lead-left role on the SpaceX debut. Traders price in Goldman’s edge from its outsized share of large technology offerings and allocation influence, while Morgan Stanley trails as a close but secondary contender in the same preparation. The September 12 statement from CEO Sam Altman delaying any listing until 2027 due to artificial intelligence safety priorities introduces timeline uncertainty without altering the banks’ relative positioning. Key upcoming catalysts include further regulatory clarity on OpenAI’s public benefit corporation structure and any formal lead-left designation ahead of a potential 2027 window.

If no IPO occurs by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, or OpenAI completes an initial public offering without a designated lead underwriter, this market will resolve to “Other.”
If multiple banks are identified as lead underwriters, this market will resolve according to the primary lead underwriter. If the hierarchy between them is unclear, this market will resolve once it is conclusively evident which bank is the primary lead underwriter, for example, through the order in which the banks are listed in the underwriting section of OpenAI's final initial public offering prospectus, once released.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official disclosures from OpenAI. A consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
