Recent polling shows a tight contest for Chiclayo’s October 4, 2026 municipal election between leading candidates Elber Requejo Sánchez of Somos Perú and Edwin Vásquez Sánchez of Alianza para el Progreso, with vote shares fluctuating in the low-to-mid 20s percent range amid a crowded field of more than twenty contenders. Requejo’s prior removal from the José Leonardo Ortiz district mayoralty over nepotism findings has not halted his provincial bid, while Vásquez benefits from his district-level record. Multiple debates, including the first regional one in mid-September, and ongoing voter surveys underscore the fragmented preferences that sustain narrow implied probabilities. Late endorsements, turnout shifts among key local blocs, or additional candidate withdrawals before election day could widen separation among frontrunners.
