Genta Koja leads the Okinawa gubernatorial race with strong trader consensus due to his endorsement by Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party and allied groups, positioning him to challenge the long-standing opposition hold on the prefecture. Incumbent Denny Tamaki, seeking a third term with support from opposition parties, trails amid voter priorities shifting toward economic growth, employment, and price measures over U.S. base relocation. Recent polls show the pair running close with many undecided, while the campaign has emphasized ties to the central government. The September 13 vote features several minor candidates but centers on this matchup, with Koja’s coalition backing and fresh messaging on pragmatic governance driving the implied probabilities.
