Incumbent Democrat Ed Markey defeated primary challenger Seth Moulton by roughly 30 points on September 1, while Republican John Deaton ran unopposed, leaving the November contest with limited statewide excitement. Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin has stated that the primary will not produce unusually high turnout, consistent with typical midterm drop-off in a safely Democratic state where recent presidential margins exceeded 24 points. Early voting volumes, mail ballot returns, and historical patterns in non-presidential years continue to anchor assessments around the 2.65M–2.95M ranges, with few catalysts yet to separate the probabilities.
