The Martin mayoral race for Slovakia’s October 24 municipal elections remains tightly contested due to an open field and uncertain status for incumbent Ján Danko, who has not publicly confirmed a third term as of mid-2026. Opposition parties consolidated early behind Michal Uherčík, who finished second in 2022 and now campaigns on audits, energy savings, and reversing population loss. Multiple independents including Milan Ftorek, Matej Turzo, and others further fragment the vote, while additional candidates such as Renáta Habrunová have entered. With registration deadlines passed and no dominant polling signals yet, trader consensus reflects high uncertainty over whether continuity, opposition unity, or a new independent can secure a majority in the first round.
