The 2026 VMA Best Alternative category features a tight seven-way contest among Geese’s “Taxes,” MGK & Fred Durst’s “Fix Ur Face,” Noah Kahan’s “The Great Divide,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “the cure,” Sombr’s “Homewrecker,” Tame Impala’s “Dracula,” and Twenty One Pilots’ “Drag Path,” with the latter two tracks holding the strongest trader consensus. Rodrigo’s May single has benefited from strong streaming momentum, a high-profile music video, and recent live performances, while Twenty One Pilots’ February release gained earlier traction through TikTok virality and its connection to the band’s ongoing lore. The remaining nominees trail due to comparatively lighter promotional pushes and chart impact in the alternative space. With fan voting closing September 25 and the ceremony set for September 27 in Los Angeles, late shifts in public sentiment or surprise industry endorsements could still tip the outcome in this historically unpredictable category.
