This market will resolve to "Yes" if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares any disease a pandemic between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source will be official announcements from the World Health Organization.Trader consensus favoring no new pandemic in 2026 stems primarily from the lack of any novel pathogen demonstrating sustained global human-to-human transmission, despite the severe Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Declared a public health emergency of international concern in May 2026, this event has produced thousands of confirmed cases and deaths across multiple provinces, yet remains regionally focused with active WHO and CDC-supported containment, contact tracing, and monitoring. Other 2026 outbreaks, including cyclosporiasis, Nipah, and hantavirus clusters, show limited scale and no pandemic indicators per official surveillance. High market-implied odds align with epidemiological data showing controlled spread of known viruses and strengthened international preparedness frameworks, though scenarios such as unexpected viral mutation enabling broader transmission or undetected emergence in under-monitored areas could still alter outcomes before year-end.
