Lindsay Clancy has been charged by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts with three counts of murder for the death of her three children. You can read more about that here: https://media.wbur.org/wp/2023/09/clancy-indictment.pdf. This market will resolve to "Yes" if Lindsay Clancy is sentenced to any term of incarceration stemming from the ongoing Commonwealth v. Lindsay Clancy case by either December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET or, in the event of a mistrial, by the end of any retrial (including possible sentencing proceedings) that begins before that date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Any custodial sentence will qualify regardless of its length, regardless of the offense it is imposed for, and regardless of whether it is satisfied in whole or in part by credit for time already served. A sentence that is entirely suspended, a sentence of probation carrying no term of incarceration, a fine alone, or an order of commitment to a mental health facility will not qualify. If this case ends due to a dismissal, or results in any situation in which no sentence is imposed by the court, or results in a verdict of Not Guilty on all charges (including by reason of lack of criminal responsibility due to mental illness), this market will resolve to "No". A plea agreement will qualify to resolve this market "Yes" only if it results in a sentence that includes a term of incarceration. If all charges against Clancy are dropped, this market will immediately resolve to "No". This market will resolve according to the initial sentence imposed in this case. Any appeals, or any later modification, reduction, or vacating of the sentence, will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. The primary resolution source will be an official judgment delivered by the ruling court; however, other credible reporting may be used.Recent developments in the Lindsay Clancy case have solidified trader confidence that she will avoid a prison sentence in 2026. A mistrial declared on September 4 after a hung jury left her without conviction or acquittal on first-degree murder charges tied to the 2023 deaths of her three children. Currently institutionalized at Tewksbury Hospital for psychiatric care, Clancy faces a September 29 status hearing, with any retrial unlikely before 2027 given standard court timelines. Legal experts emphasize that even a future conviction or civil commitment would likely result in long-term forensic psychiatric confinement rather than traditional prison, especially considering her documented postpartum psychosis defense and paraplegia. While prosecutors may pursue a retrial or plea, the compressed window through year-end makes a prison sentence resolution improbable.
