Incumbent Democrat Scott Peters holds a commanding position in the California 50th congressional district race, reflected in the strong trader consensus favoring his re-election on November 3, 2026. The San Diego-area district has consistently supported Democratic candidates in recent cycles, and Peters secured 64 percent in 2024 while advancing comfortably through the June 2026 top-two primary against Republican Steve Cohen. Nonpartisan ratings classify the seat as solidly or safely Democratic, supported by Peters’ substantial fundraising edge and cash reserves. Cohen, a political newcomer and former local journalist endorsed by the state Republican Party, has not generated polling or momentum sufficient to close the gap. Late developments such as a significant scandal, health event, or unexpected national partisan shift could theoretically alter the trajectory before Election Day, though none have materialized to date.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
