Andy Burnham’s recent PMQs appearances as prime minister have centered on fiscal responsibility, defence commitments, and balancing national security with social spending. At his debut session on September 2, he outlined NATO-aligned spending targets reaching 3.5% of GDP by 2035 while refusing to detail the October budget or rule out tax measures, drawing sharp exchanges with Kemi Badenoch over borrowing costs and welfare. A follow-up appearance reinforced similar themes, including resistance to cutting benefits to fund defence. With Parliament returning from conference recess, traders are watching whether the next session will revisit NATO, defence, or economic messaging amid ongoing budget preparations and international diplomacy. PMQs functions as high-stakes political theater where phrasing and repetition often signal priorities or deflections.
