Wu Hsiu-hua, the Kuomintang nominee and current Taitung County Council speaker, holds an 86.5% implied probability in the market for the November 28, 2026, county magistrate election. This positioning stems from the KMT’s long-standing structural dominance in Taitung, her institutional role succeeding term-limited incumbent Yao Ching-ling, and the party’s early December 2025 nomination. DPP nominee Chen Ying, a sitting legislator with indigenous Puyuma heritage, trails at 9.6% amid a smaller share of the electorate and limited polling momentum. Independent candidates including Li Wu Ying-chih register near zero. Recent developments such as September 2026 reports of a road-widening investigation tied to Wu’s family and cross-party visits by President Lai Ching-te have not shifted trader consensus away from the KMT’s historical edge in this open-seat contest.
