The midterm elections will take place on November 3, 2026. A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).Troy Downing holds a commanding position in the MT-02 race as the Republican incumbent in a solidly Republican district covering eastern Montana, including Billings, Great Falls, and Helena. He secured his party's nomination without opposition in the June 2026 primary after winning the seat in 2024 by a wide margin, while Democrat Brian Miller prevailed in a low-turnout primary against limited competition and modest fundraising. Cook Political Report rates the contest Solid Republican, aligning with trader consensus that reflects the district's consistent partisan lean, incumbency advantages, and absence of major recent shifts in polling or endorsements. The general election on November 3, 2026, features additional minor-party candidates. Potential developments that could alter the outcome include unexpected turnout surges, late-breaking national political events, or unforeseen candidate-specific issues before ballots are cast.
