Recent polling and the collapse of local KMT-TPP coordination have driven trader consensus toward DPP nominee Cheng Chao-fang at 64 percent for the November 28 Hsinchu County magistrate race. A September 21 Era poll showed Cheng at 35.1 percent support against KMT nominee Hsu Hsin-ying at 28.7 percent, reversing a June deficit and reflecting gains among former TPP voters after the parties failed to align on a Zhubei mayoral candidate. Cheng, the current Zhubei mayor, holds a clear edge in that populous city while Hsu retains strength in most other townships. Minor candidates including independents and party splinter figures register negligible shares. The two-candidate dynamic, combined with undecided voters near 29 percent, leaves room for shifts before election day.
