**Official National Weather Service climatological summaries for September 19, 2026, recorded a daily maximum of 70°F at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the primary station for such records, with the high occurring in the afternoon.** This measurement aligns precisely with the market’s dominant 70-71°F outcome and explains the 99.6% implied probability, as traders incorporate verified station data once the calendar day concludes. Supporting context includes a minimum of 63°F, above-normal overnight lows, and precipitation totals around 0.5–0.86 inches, consistent with a cool, moist air mass that limited daytime heating below the September normal of 74–75°F. Realistic scenarios that could alter the outcome include a post-event data revision from the reporting station, resolution criteria tied to a secondary site such as Midway (which reached 72°F), or an unexpected adjustment in how “highest temperature” is defined for the contract. In the absence of such anomalies, the NWS-verified observation anchors near-certain trader consensus.
