SpaceX has validated Mechazilla chopstick catches repeatedly with Super Heavy boosters, but an upper-stage Starship catch remains unattempted due to higher reentry speeds, different aerodynamics, and the need for precise vertical positioning within tight tolerances. Recent hardware rehearsals at Pad 2 in mid-September 2026 lifted Flight 15’s Ship 42 into the arms, testing attachment, pushers, and Ship Quick Disconnect reconnection to simulate post-catch operations. Elon Musk noted after Flight 13’s precise July 2026 splashdown that the vehicle was catch-ready, shifting the first attempt to Flight 15 later in the fall rather than Flight 14, which targets orbital insertion and Starlink V3 deployment around late September without a tower catch. These preparations and Musk’s “few months” timeline underpin trader focus on near-term resolution windows.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
