Recent filings and small-scale tests are shaping trader views on orbital AI data centers, driven by terrestrial power constraints pushing companies toward solar-powered satellite constellations for large language model inference and training. Starcloud demonstrated the first orbital Nvidia H100 GPU and small LLM training in late 2025, followed by major funding rounds including Nvidia participation, while SpaceX filed for up to one million satellites targeting 2028 deployment and Blue Origin advanced its 51,600-satellite Project Sunrise. Google plans TPU prototypes with Planet for early 2027, and newer entrants like Orbital are targeting similar timelines with Reflex Aerospace platforms. Key swing factors include launch cost reductions below $500 per kilogram, effective radiative cooling at scale, and downlink bandwidth—barriers that recent industry panels highlight as limiting near-term commercial viability despite rising capital inflows.
