Hsu Shu-hua, the Kuomintang incumbent magistrate of Nantou County, holds a dominant position in the November 28, 2026 local election market due to her established local record, high satisfaction ratings after her first term, and the county's consistent preference for KMT candidates in magistrate races. She previously won the seat in 2022 by a 56-44 margin and has leveraged party networks and recent legislative recall defenses to consolidate support ahead of candidate registration. Her Democratic Progressive Party challenger, Wen Shih-cheng, a dentist with limited recent county residency and no prior elected office, faces structural disadvantages in a blue-leaning area with strong native-son voting patterns. Scenarios that could narrow the gap include major late-campaign scandals, significant shifts in turnout among key townships, or unexpected central government interventions affecting local issues such as infrastructure or environmental reviews.
