Recent National Weather Service and private model guidance for Chicago points to a highest temperature on September 24 in the mid-to-upper 60s, driven by persistent northeasterly flow off Lake Michigan and extensive cloud cover that limits daytime solar heating. Surface observations through September 22–23 show daily highs stuck in the low-to-mid 60s amid this stable cool air mass, well below the late-September climatological average near 73°F. Ensemble forecasts exhibit modest spread but converge on limited warming absent a stronger southerly shift, supporting the market’s heavy weighting toward the 66–71°F bins. Updated model runs and official National Weather Service briefings on steering patterns will provide the next key inputs before resolution.
