Trader consensus strongly favors a 70-71°F high in Chicago on September 20, driven by National Weather Service forecasts projecting a peak near 69°F amid widespread heavy rain, thunderstorms, and persistent northeast winds gusting to 30 mph. This cool, stable pattern stems from a frontal system suppressing daytime warming, with morning readings already in the upper 60s and minimal diurnal rise expected under overcast skies and onshore flow. Such conditions deviate below the 1991-2020 average high of 74°F for the date, underscoring the influence of the current synoptic setup. Official station data through the afternoon will confirm the exact maximum, with any temporary clearing the main variable that could edge readings into the leading bin.
