SpaceX's Flight 13 in July 2026 delivered the key validation for a Starship upper stage tower catch, with Ship 40 achieving precise vertical orientation and splashdown positioning that Elon Musk confirmed would have allowed Mechazilla's chopstick arms to capture it. This shifted focus to Flight 14, originally eyed for the first orbital-profile attempt and catch, though Musk later indicated the milestone would likely slip several months amid ongoing data reviews, chopstick hardware optimizations for reduced mass and faster actuation, and pending FAA approvals for expanded landing zones. Multiple prior Super Heavy booster catches have proven the tower system, but the upper stage demands full orbital reentry energy, heat shield performance, and terminal guidance—none yet demonstrated. Traders are watching Flight 14 preparations and any regulatory or vehicle updates that could accelerate or further delay the first attempt.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
