Recent polls conducted in September 2026 show the CDU consistently ahead of the SPD by 8–11 percentage points, with the CDU at 20–21% and the SPD at 10–12%, while other parties such as the Left and AfD trail or compete separately. The Berlin state election occurs on September 20, leaving minimal time for shifts in voter sentiment. The SPD’s position as the junior partner in the current CDU-led coalition and its weaker polling trajectory across multiple institutes have reinforced trader expectations that the CDU will secure a larger share of first votes. A narrow polling margin or late developments could theoretically narrow the gap, yet the scale of the difference and proximity to election day underpin the 97.5% implied probability for the CDU outcome.
