Recent polling shows a tight contest for first place among the CDU, Linke, AfD, and Grüne ahead of the September 20 Berlin state election, with each party hovering between 15% and 22% in late surveys. This narrow spread among multiple contenders creates substantial uncertainty over final rankings, supporting the market's view of CDU as the leading candidate for second place followed by AfD and Linke. The SPD's weaker position and recent developments around its lead candidate add further volatility, while the AfD's steady gains reflect broader trends but remain constrained by coalition barriers. Late shifts in turnout or voter preferences among these closely matched parties could reorder the outcome before election day.
