Chung Tung-chin’s commanding position stems from his incumbency as Miaoli County magistrate, recent governance satisfaction surveys showing ratings above 75 percent with strong marks in tourism, welfare, and economic development, and unified backing from KMT and TPP figures during his reelection registration. Cross-party endorsements and his vision for regional tech and tourism growth have consolidated pan-blue support in this traditionally KMT-leaning county ahead of the November 28 vote. DPP nominee Chen Pin-an, a sitting county councilor, faces structural challenges in mobilizing sufficient turnout against the incumbent’s established local networks and approval trends. Late developments such as unexpected scandals or shifts in national party dynamics could still alter the race, though current conditions point to limited pathways for challengers.
