Andy Burnham’s recent PMQs appearances as prime minister have centered on defence spending commitments, with Badenoch pressing him on timelines for reaching 3% of GDP amid NATO obligations and threats like those involving the Falklands. Economic pressures from rising borrowing costs, tax policy, and the upcoming October budget have dominated exchanges, alongside foreign policy flashpoints such as sanctions on Israeli settlements and the Chagos Islands deal. Traders are watching for momentum shifts in these recurring storylines, as Burnham balances fiscal responsibility rhetoric with spending pledges while facing opposition scrutiny on welfare and leadership style. The next session could hinge on any late-breaking updates to the spending review or international developments that force sharper responses.
