The open mayoral race in Peterborough, Ontario, remains tightly contested ahead of the October 26 municipal election, with trader odds reflecting a fragmented field led by Michael Eamon at 37 percent, followed closely by Neil Morton and Keith Riel near 33.5 percent. Incumbent Mayor Jeff Leal’s August announcement that he would not seek re-election removed any established frontrunner and drew seven certified candidates, including experienced local figures with backgrounds in council service, university administration, entrepreneurship, and homebuilding. Candidates have emphasized platforms around economic growth, housing affordability, downtown renewal, transparency, and civic engagement through early campaign events and listening sessions. The absence of recent public polling or major endorsements has kept probabilities clustered, while upcoming debates, candidate forums, and any shifts in local issues such as development approvals or budget priorities could widen gaps among the top contenders in the final weeks.
