The New Westminster mayoral contest on October 17, 2026, centers on a head-to-head matchup between incumbent Patrick Johnstone of Community First New West, who emphasizes policy continuity on housing affordability and social supports, and challenger Daniel Fontaine of the New West Progressives, who highlights council accountability, resident input, and concerns over cumulative tax increases. Nominations closed September 11, with the first candidate debate occurring in early September, sharpening contrasts on municipal spending, development, and governance style amid established party slates. Trader consensus prices reflect the closely matched positioning, driven by local polarization on these issues and limited polling data this far from voting day; any late shifts in turnout among key neighborhoods or endorsements could alter the balance before ballots are cast.
