Recent August CPI data showed China's annual inflation accelerating to 0.8 percent from 0.5 percent in July, matching forecasts and lifted by higher global energy and commodity prices tied to Middle East supply risks, alongside seasonal food and travel gains. Core inflation excluding food and energy rose only modestly to 1 percent, reflecting subdued domestic demand, weak consumption, and persistent overcapacity. Analysts anticipate a further moderate uptick for September, though outcomes remain sensitive to energy price trends and any signs of broader recovery in household spending. Trader positioning across the 0.5–1.1 percent range underscores uncertainty ahead of the mid-October release, with global commodity movements and policy support for internal demand as key variables that could shift probabilities.
