Gold prices are trading near $4,410 per ounce in early September 2026, pulled back from August highs above $4,650 amid competing pressures. Escalating Middle East tensions have lifted safe-haven demand while pushing oil prices higher, raising inflation concerns and supporting roughly 50-60% market-implied odds of a 25 basis point Federal Reserve rate hike at the September 15-16 FOMC meeting following strong August payrolls. Upcoming CPI and PPI releases will directly shape rate expectations and Treasury yields, key drivers of gold's opportunity cost. Persistent central bank purchases and ETF inflows provide a structural bid less sensitive to short-term policy shifts, while the metal remains well below its January peak near $5,600. Traders are monitoring whether these macro crosscurrents produce a breakout above $4,530 resistance or a deeper test of $4,300 support before month-end.
