Incumbent Democrat Jim McGovern secured his party's nomination with 99.6% of the vote in the September 1, 2026 primary for Massachusetts' 2nd congressional district. All major forecasters rate the race Solid or Safe Democratic, consistent with the district's D+13 partisan voter index and McGovern's repeated reelections by wide margins since 1997. No Republican candidate filed for the general election on November 3, leaving the seat without a major-party opponent. Trader consensus at 94.5% for McGovern reflects this structural advantage, the absence of competitive filings, and the district's consistent Democratic performance in recent presidential and House cycles. A late independent entry, health event, or unforeseen scandal could theoretically alter the outcome before November, though no such developments have emerged.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
