Recent Bank of Japan policy normalization, including the September 18, 2026 rate hike to 1.25% by a 7-2 vote, underpins the 67.3% market-implied probability for Japan 10-year yields ending 2026 above 3.0%. Persistent upside risks to inflation from elevated oil prices amid Middle East tensions, yen depreciation, and AI-driven demand have prompted faster tightening, with underlying CPI approaching or exceeding the 2% target in the second half of fiscal 2026. Yields have climbed to approximately 2.98% amid these pressures and fiscal concerns, though core inflation eased to 1.7% in August. Traders price in continued accommodation adjustments through year-end, tempered by dissenters signaling a potentially measured pace ahead of upcoming data releases.
