The open contest for Hobart Lord Mayor, following incumbent Anna Reynolds' decision not to seek re-election, has produced a fragmented field of sitting councillors and independents ahead of the October 27, 2026, Tasmanian local government elections. Nominations opened only recently, with John Kelly's September entry adding to confirmed candidates including Ryan Posselt, Louise Bloomfield, Bill Harvey, Marti Zucco, and Mike Dutta. Single transferable voting in this multi-candidate race spreads support across preference flows, keeping implied probabilities tightly distributed and sensitive to name recognition from the 2022 results plus early positioning on issues such as transport, rates, and council governance. Further candidate announcements and formal preference arrangements before the September 21 close could shift trader consensus.
