The open mayoral seat after incumbent Jeff Leal’s August 2026 decision not to seek re-election has produced a crowded seven-candidate field for the October 26 municipal vote in Peterborough, Ontario. With only one sitting councillor among the contenders—Keith Riel—alongside Michael Eamon, Neil Morton, Rob Hailman, and others, no candidate holds a commanding edge in name recognition or organizational strength. Recent platform launches, student outreach at Trent University, and community events have kept early momentum diffuse. Trader pricing, with Eamon and Morton near 39% and the field otherwise fragmented, reflects this uncertainty ahead of the first-past-the-post outcome.
