Recent abuse allegations against Republican incumbent Max Miller from his ex-wife have sharply eroded his position in Ohio’s 7th district, prompting ethics scrutiny, calls from multiple Republican senators for him to withdraw, and a shift in race ratings to toss-up status by groups including the Cook Political Report. The withdrawal deadline passed in early August without a replacement candidate, locking Miller in as the nominee despite reduced party enthusiasm and polling that shows Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter, a union ironworker, leading by double digits in a district Trump carried by 11 points in 2024. National Democratic organizations have prioritized Poindexter with additional resources, while the NRCC has continued limited support for Miller; traders appear to view these developments as tilting the November outcome toward the Democrat.
